Milan, Marchegiani takes the defence of Fonseca: «He PAYS for mistakes which are not his»

Former Lazio goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani believes that Paulo Fonseca is "paying for mistakes that are not his".

Fonseca is under pressure at Roma after a poor start to the season, with the team currently 11th in Serie A.

Marchegiani, who played for Lazio from 1986 to 2003, said that Fonseca is a "good coach" who is being let down by his players.

"Fonseca is paying for mistakes that are not his," Marchegiani told Radio Sportiva.

"He is a good coach, but he has not been helped by the players.

"The team has not been playing well, and that is not his fault.

"He needs more time to turn things around.

"I am confident that he can do it, but he needs the support of the players and the fans.

Fonseca has won two trophies with Roma, the Coppa Italia in 2021 and the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.

However, he has also been criticized for his team's inconsistent performances.

Roma have won just three of their first eight Serie A matches this season.

They were also knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Ludogorets Razgrad in the play-off round.

Fonseca's future at Roma is now in doubt.

He is under pressure to turn things around quickly, or he could be sacked.

Fonseca is a good coach, but he needs more time to turn things around at Roma.

He has not been helped by the players, who have not been playing well.
