**Bill Aims to Protect Voter Access and Strengthen Election Security**

Washington, D.C. - Today, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, along with Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and John Hickenlooper (D-CO), introduced the Freedom to Vote Act, a comprehensive proposal to protect voter registration and voting access, strengthen election integrity and security, address redistricting, and overhaul campaign finance laws.

**Key Provisions of the Freedom to Vote Act:**

  • Automatic Voter Registration: Requires states to implement automatic voter registration systems that register eligible voters when they interact with state agencies, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • No-Excuse Absentee Voting: Ensures that all eligible voters have access to absentee voting without requiring an excuse.
  • Election Day Holiday: Establishes Election Day as a federal holiday to promote voter turnout.
  • Independent Redistricting Commissions: Creates independent commissions responsible for drawing congressional and state legislative districts to prevent partisan gerrymandering.

Senator Klobuchar emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues, stating, "Our democracy is under attack from those who seek to restrict voting rights and undermine the integrity of our elections. This bill is a comprehensive plan to protect the freedom to vote and strengthen our democracy for generations to come."

Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper echoed Klobuchar's concerns, highlighting the importance of accessible and secure elections. "Every eligible American deserves the opportunity to participate in our democracy," said Bennet. "This bill will ensure that we have a fair and equitable election system for all."

The Freedom to Vote Act represents a significant step forward in the ongoing fight to protect voting rights and strengthen American democracy.
