Freedom To Vote Act Klobuchar

Klobuchar Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Protect the Freedom to Vote and Strengthen Our Democracy

Senators Unveil Comprehensive Election Reform Bill

Measures Address Voter Registration, Access, Security, and Redistricting

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over federal elections, along with Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and John Hickenlooper (D-CO), today introduced the Freedom to Vote Act, comprehensive legislation to protect the freedom to vote and strengthen American democracy.

The Freedom to Vote Act addresses a range of issues essential to ensuring fair and accessible elections, including:

  • Voter Registration and Access: Expanding voter registration opportunities, making it easier for people to register and vote, and providing for automatic voter registration.
  • Election Integrity and Security: Strengthening election security measures, protecting against foreign interference, and ensuring the accuracy of voter rolls.
  • Redistricting: Establishing independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions to prevent gerrymandering and ensure fair representation.
  • Campaign Finance: Promoting transparency and accountability in campaign spending and reducing the influence of special interests.

In a statement, Senator Klobuchar said, "Our democracy is under attack by those who seek to suppress the vote and undermine our elections. The Freedom to Vote Act is a comprehensive solution to these threats, ensuring that every American has the freedom to vote and that our elections are fair and secure."

"This legislation is not only about protecting our right to vote but also about strengthening our democracy as a whole," said Senator Bennet. "By making it easier for people to vote, ensuring the integrity of our elections, and preventing gerrymandering, we can build a stronger and more representative government."

"The Freedom to Vote Act is essential to protecting the fundamental right to vote for all Americans," said Senator Hickenlooper. "We must act now to safeguard our democracy and ensure that everyone has a voice in our government."

The introduction of the Freedom to Vote Act comes amidst growing concerns about efforts to restrict voting access and undermine the integrity of elections. In the 2020 election, over 400 bills were introduced in state legislatures to restrict voting rights, and in the aftermath of the election, there have been numerous attempts to overturn the results.

The Freedom to Vote Act is a comprehensive and timely response to these threats. By addressing a wide range of issues essential to ensuring fair and accessible elections, this legislation would help protect American democracy and ensure that every vote counts.
